How Vexor Improved Fleet Visibility and Utilisation with V-DAQ

How Vexor Logistics transformed fleet visibility, utilisation and compliance across its interstate operation with V-DAQ Fleet Tracking.

How Vexor Improved Fleet Visibility and Utilisation with V-DAQ

Vexor specialises in interstate freight and logistics services across Australia's major cities. Supporting both national organisations and customers with smaller consignments, the company provides reliable transport, freight tracking and warehousing solutions designed to keep supply chains moving efficiently.

About Vexor

Vexor's long-haul operation connects Australia's east and west coasts, with services running between Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The fleet includes over 40 prime movers, alongside local trucks and rigid vehicles based in Perth.

Vexor optimises its vehicle combinations across each stage of the journey to maximise equipment utilisation, operational flexibility and service reliability. Freight travelling from South Australia to the east coast is predominantly carried using B-doubles, while the company also operates road trains into Melbourne and B-triples into Sydney. When trailers return to Adelaide, the combinations are reconfigured as road trains, B-triples or AB-triples for the journey to Perth.

The challenge

Before partnering with V-DAQ, Vexor faced challenges with fleet tracking, vehicle utilisation, driver hours and allocations. Although the company had an existing tracking system, it did not provide the capabilities needed to efficiently manage these interconnected areas across its growing interstate operation.

As Vexor began operating larger vehicle combinations, including road trains into Victoria and new configurations travelling into Western Australia, its operational requirements evolved. The business needed a solution that could bring fleet tracking and On-Board Mass (OBM) capabilities together to support its expanding operation through one connected system.

The solution

Having used V-DAQ at a previous transport company, Vexor's National Linehaul Manager, Dave Krajnc, was already familiar with the system's simplicity and reliability. V-DAQ stood out for its ease of use, cost-effectiveness and flexible hardware, which could be quickly moved between vehicles as the fleet changed.

Vexor initially introduced V-DAQ Fleet Tracking and TMA alongside its existing system to support the operational, road access and mass-monitoring requirements of its larger combinations travelling into Western Australia. Within a month, the benefits were clear, and the company decided to transition its broader operation to V-DAQ.

The rollout began with six vehicles and trailers selected for PBS operations. As Vexor progressively replaced older equipment with PBS-approved trailers, it expanded the solution across more of the fleet, providing greater flexibility to operate larger combinations.

With its own workshop, Vexor can install or transfer a V-DAQ device between vehicles in approximately 30 minutes without booking an external technician. The straightforward setup also allows drivers and workshop staff to check connections and resolve minor issues on the road, helping minimise disruption and downtime.

“Customer service is paramount. The support we've had from V-DAQ has been absolutely fantastic. If there's been an issue, it's been resolved.” — Dave Krajnc, National Linehaul Manager, Vexor

The results

Since implementing V-DAQ Fleet Tracking, Vexor has gained greater visibility across its interstate operation, helping the team coordinate vehicles, drivers and depots more efficiently.

Faster turnarounds and more reliable deliveries

For express services between the east coast and Perth, changeover drivers can live-track incoming vehicles and prepare for their arrival. This allows combinations to be turned around quickly and vehicles and drivers to be positioned at the border ahead of time.

Drivers can take their legally required rest breaks while trailers continue moving through the network. This has reduced trailer waiting times by three to four hours, supporting faster journeys into Perth and a more reliable service for Vexor's customers.

Greater fleet utilisation and profitability

Improved visibility has enabled Vexor to make better use of its vehicles and equipment, improving productivity and profitability across the operation while maintaining service levels.

Simplified compliance and roadside checks

The integration between V-DAQ and Hubfleet has streamlined compliance management. Vexor's compliance team can quickly generate reports when responding to NHVR requests, while drivers can present their electronic work diary information during roadside checks. This has helped reduce some roadside interactions to approximately five to ten minutes, getting drivers back on the road sooner.

More effective maintenance planning

Fuel and maintenance information captured through the integrated systems helps the Vexor team identify potential issues and plan workshop repairs more effectively, supporting proactive maintenance and reducing operational disruption.

“Fleet utilisation has been key. We've been able to utilise all of our equipment much better. Profitability has risen, and the whole process has become a lot smoother.” — Dave Krajnc, National Linehaul Manager, Vexor

Looking ahead

For Vexor, V-DAQ has been more than a technology change - it has transformed how the business manages its operation. With clearer oversight of fleet utilisation, driver hours, fatigue and maintenance requirements, Vexor can make more informed decisions and manage its day-to-day operation with greater confidence.

The Vexor team values V-DAQ's practical, customer-focused approach. Rather than recommending technology beyond what the business needs, the V-DAQ team takes the time to understand Vexor's requirements, answer questions and identify the right solution.

“It's like being part of a family. Every question we've had and everything we've looked at doing, the V-DAQ team has been there to help. Nothing has ever been too hard, and the whole transition has been fantastic.” — Dave Krajnc, National Linehaul Manager, Vexor
